Virtual Sketch Date

Flower in a Vase

original oil painting, 10 x 10 inch, copyright MaryAnn Cleary

Here is my interpretation of the latest photo for the virtual sketching date. Sorry for the late posting of this one, but my grandson and his parents are visiting so I was a little side-tracked. However, I did manage to squeeze in some painting time this evening. I thought about doing this in charcoal or watercolor, but I opted to do oil in a more loose technique using a palette knife as well as a brush. Enjoy!

Thanks to those who helped put this together! What fun!

Maryann, I like the texture the palette knife left on the petals. They are a nice contrast to the smoother background. I also love how the tabletop and background meld together. It gives a nice sense of depth.

You work very nicely "under pressure" :)

I love the effects here, the texture the entire look, reminds me of the old masters styles. I am impressed. Visit top5cats.blogspot.com for my version of VSD-September.

Gorgeous! I've never tried oil, but am ramping up for it....just LOVE the creamy texture you got, and lovely subtle colors. Really beautiful.

I considered doing this in oil, but didn't have time. Now I want to try it. You've done a wonderful job with this. I love the touch of yellow and the loose, impressionistic feel. It's lovely!

MaryAnn, love the brushwork and texture of this piece. I feel I could reach out and touch those petals. Great highlight color choices as well.

Very good. I love the thick paint on the petals. Maybe I will have to get my oils out for the next challenge.
